We met Judy and Marv at QT in Herculaneum at 5:30am on Thursday, September 3rd.
Starting our journey to Colorado or wherever the road takes us. This trip started with Marv and Judy purchasing a truck camper in August. And then the ideal to take a trip together..which we had not done for quite a few years. Of course, you know are choices are usually Colorado, and then Colorado, and finally Colorado. Marv suggested riding the atvs, which again is another good choice for us. So as the trip planning began…I mean the first day only and that was where we would meet.
Our first night was spent in RA in Kansas, which was their first time boondocking (for you who do not know what that means no electric, water, or sewer).
This is on top of Cottonwood Pass before Taylor Park at 12128 ft. And yes Marv drove his new dodge on a gravel road.
On our third day out we made it to our favorite location, Taylor Park. We stayed at the River’s End CG, National Forrest Campground again without hookups. This was the beginning of their new adventure of riding atvs. Remember you are never to “old” to learn something new.
This was Marv’s 1st ATV adventure.
Judy was brave enough to venture on the trail with him. We were heading to Tincup and the trading post.
Before leaving they found a fixer upper at Pieplant.
We spent 3 nights in Taylor Park before heading to Black Canyon of Gunnison. The view before leaving was gorgeous with the fog lifting off the lake.
This is Colorado National Monument Park which is absolutely beautiful and worth the drive.
One of the tunnels in the park we went thru.
Marv and Judy always in our mirror.
The guys drooling over sweets in the window at Leadville. From there we went to Rocky Mountain National Park, spending the night in Timber Creek CG. A huge disappointment the beetles have killed at least 75% of the trees in the park. After going thru the park we stayed at a CG called Mary’s Lake Campground in Estes Park. It is listed in the Trailer life Directory….…expensive, and not kept clean or updated. It was the most expensive we stayed in and the worst! And then on to Colorado Springs to ride the cog railway up to Pikes Peak. We stayed in Manitou at the Pikes Peak CG which was the best we stayed in. The hosts were super and the grounds were very clean. The newspaper was delivered each morning to our door.
We went up on Pikes Peak to only find the visibility was near zero with snow. Still enjoyed the ride up and down.
Me and my Sis before going our separate ways. We headed home and they were planning a few more days out. Had a great trip again!
