Do you believe in Santa? Well he was at our party!!!!!!
Hadler Brothers
Hadler Sister-in-laws
We hosted the Hadler Christmas this past weekend and had an great time.
We met Judy and Marv at QT in Herculaneum at 5:30am on Thursday, September 3rd.
Starting our journey to Colorado or wherever the road takes us. This trip started with Marv and Judy purchasing a truck camper in August. And then the ideal to take a trip together..which we had not done for quite a few years. Of course, you know are choices are usually Colorado, and then Colorado, and finally Colorado. Marv suggested riding the atvs, which again is another good choice for us. So as the trip planning began…I mean the first day only and that was where we would meet.
Our first night was spent in RA in Kansas, which was their first time boondocking (for you who do not know what that means no electric, water, or sewer).
This is on top of Cottonwood Pass before Taylor Park at 12128 ft. And yes Marv drove his new dodge on a gravel road.
On our third day out we made it to our favorite location, Taylor Park. We stayed at the River’s End CG, National Forrest Campground again without hookups. This was the beginning of their new adventure of riding atvs. Remember you are never to “old” to learn something new.
This was Marv’s 1st ATV adventure.
Judy was brave enough to venture on the trail with him. We were heading to Tincup and the trading post.
Before leaving they found a fixer upper at Pieplant.
We spent 3 nights in Taylor Park before heading to Black Canyon of Gunnison. The view before leaving was gorgeous with the fog lifting off the lake.
This is Colorado National Monument Park which is absolutely beautiful and worth the drive.
One of the tunnels in the park we went thru.
Marv and Judy always in our mirror.
The guys drooling over sweets in the window at Leadville. From there we went to Rocky Mountain National Park, spending the night in Timber Creek CG. A huge disappointment the beetles have killed at least 75% of the trees in the park. After going thru the park we stayed at a CG called Mary’s Lake Campground in Estes Park. It is listed in the Trailer life Directory….…expensive, and not kept clean or updated. It was the most expensive we stayed in and the worst! And then on to Colorado Springs to ride the cog railway up to Pikes Peak. We stayed in Manitou at the Pikes Peak CG which was the best we stayed in. The hosts were super and the grounds were very clean. The newspaper was delivered each morning to our door.
We went up on Pikes Peak to only find the visibility was near zero with snow. Still enjoyed the ride up and down.
Me and my Sis before going our separate ways. We headed home and they were planning a few more days out. Had a great trip again!
We left for Colorado on the 31st of July meeting our Friends Henry and Janey in STL. The first day we drove to the last RA in Kansas and spent the night before heading to Kerr Gulch. This is where I will not soon forget! I had not driven the ATV in the Mountains and was not familiar with this type of terrain (steep). Janey, Arlin, and then me started to climb I was not sure what gear to put it in and ask Henry, he said “I don’t know” needless to say I started in too high gear, starting to lose power and then slide backwards down the trail… meanwhile my cell started to ring. Forget that I couldn’t control the ATV let alone answer my cell. Arlin and Henry were a little excited with my escapade and started to come rescue me. I did manage to come to a stop without completely overturning the ATV. WHOOSH!!!! I was beginning to think I’m too old for this kind of adventure! Meanwhile, back on track, they help me to the top of a gorgeous mountain with a spectacular view. I had a voice mail on my cell so I retrieved it and Darryl was saying call me mom, I need to talk to you..nothing wrong just want to talk to you. Yeah, right? Tried several times to call him and “no answer”. So down the mountain we were going when my cell rang again. I tried to get my helmet off quickly and couldn’t..so handed the phone to Arlin. He chatted with Darryl and then handed the phone to me. I started to say what’s wrong, and again he says nothing. So we exchanged a few words and then he said how would you like to be grandma again? OMG, I kept saying, how great! Darryl apologizes for not telling us in person and I said I would never forget this moment or place. So this was the first few days of our journey.
Pieplant area
On our third day we left Kerr Gulch to set up camp near Pieplant by Taylor Park Reservoir where we stayed 5 days. We made a trip to American Mtn. which was most awesome, but quite rough. Rode several trails on that side of the reservoir before moving about 10 miles to Tincup. Again we rode trails to Tincup Pass, Cumberland Pass, Hancock Pass, and to St. Elmo. I put on approximately 280 miles and not sure about him He rode more than I. My body told me when to stop and I listened. (Besides I had internet on my blackberry and cell service so I found other things to do beside ride!)
We worshiped at the Tincup Community Church while there.

Working
We returned home on the 12th with lots of memories to carry us thru till the next trip.
Stayed at Indian Creek CG in Yellowstone Saturday night and in Bridge Bay Sunday. Started out with a rainy morning and the afternoon partly sunny. Saw bear, elk, moose, and deer since entering the park. Hoping to have a campfire tonight. Traveling about 2700 miles so far and gone 9 days. Starting up Hwy 61 into Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and then to North Dakota and Montana & Wyoming. Met Mary & Bill Taylor and Paul & Rita Turner in Glacier.

Arriving at Polebridge Mercantile where we had the best homemade pastries after traveling 30 miles on the roughest and dirtiest roads in the park.
Proof that I was along on this trip.
Glenda and Willard’s Sophie, “the wonder dog” waiting for the coffee to cool.
Both of our rigs at a rest area.
Following Willard and Glenda leaving the campground.
